Alessandra Mazzanti was born in Bologna and obtained a first-class diploma in Organ playing and Organ Composition with Maria Grazia Filippi, in Choral Music and Choir Conduction with Tito Gotti, in Composition with Ivan Vandor and in Orchestral Conducting with Luciano Acocella at the Conservatoire “G.B. Martini” in Bologna. She subsequently specialised in Orchestral Conducting, in whichshe obtained a first-class degree. 

She continued her studies as an organist under Monika Henking, Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini and Michael Radulescu and as a conductor with Deian Pavlov and Gheorghi Dimitrov.

She is now the organist at the St. Anthony of Padua Basilica in Bologna and Artistic Director of the Fabio da Bologna Musical Association. Since 2016 she is also official organist of the church of San Domenico in Cesena and Artistic Supervisor of the ancient organ Malamini (1601).

She is a concert organist, appearing both as soloist and member of orchestras, choral and instrumental formations (duo with trumpet, violin, tenor, soprano, alto, trio with two trumpets).

She performs in Italy and has toured in Europe and South America.

She has recorded several CDs as an organist and choir and orchestra conductor (“The joy of Dance in Organ Music” Bongiovanni of Bologna editor, “Via Crucis” by Liszt for soloists, choir and organ, “34 Ottobre Organistico Francescano”, “Music for organ and tenor”, and others).

Every year she organizes the Organ Festivals “Ottobre Organistico Francescano Bolognese” and “Bologna Summer Organ Festival” that take place in St. Anthony of Padua Basilica in Bologna (mechanic Franz Zanin organ 1972), the Organ Festival“Venerdì a Stella Maris” that takes place in Stella Maris Church in Milano Marittima (RA) (electric Zanin organ 1970) and the organ festival “Musica in San Domenico”, that take place in the church of San Domenico of Cesena (Malamini organ 1601).

Alessandra Mazzanti’s compositions have been performed in a series of concerts in Italy and abroad, International Festivals and recordings for the Italian radio.

She won the Composition Competition “Noferini” arranged by the Conservatoire “G.B. Martini” in Bologna in 1985 and 1986. She won first prize at the “XII International Composition Contest DONNE IN MUSICA Serbia 2015” (Category IV – Orchestral music) for her piece, ECCE HOMO, for choir, woodwind, organ and percussion.

She has conducted the Orchestra of Bologna’s Teatro Comunale, the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Vratza (Bulgaria), the State Philharmonic and Opera Orchestra of Plovdiv (Bulgaria), the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Shumen (Bulgaria).

From 1997 to 2001 she conducted the Choir and Orchestra of Cappella Musicale Arcivescovile of Santa Maria dei Servi in Bologna.

Since 1995 she has been conductor of the Fabio da Bologna Polyphonic Choir and in the same year she founded the Fabio da Bologna Orchestra which she currently directs.

Alessandra Mazzanti’s activities include teaching Organ and Gregorian plainsong at the “Bruno Maderna” Conservatoire in Cesena, and she holds seminars and workshops (themost recentworkshop in schoolsin Cambridge (UK)onThe Carnival of theAnimals by Saint-Saëns).
